Re-cycle de los Hermanos Pang, 2006

Escaleras. Muchas escaleras. Escaleras por doquier. Algunas llevan a algun lado, mientras que otras a ninguno. Asi es como mejor podria denominarse un cuadro del artista Maurits Cornelis Escher, ahora bien, ¿ qué tiene que ver un cuadro de este artista con la siguiente pelicula ?, pues bien, tal vez todo, tal vez nada. Quizas, es que los hermanos Pang sintieron atracción por este artista y lo quisierón plasmar en su obra, entre muchas otras cosas; lo cierto es que estos directores asiaticos pusieron a hervir sus neuronas una vez mas con el fin de asustar y deleitar a su publico, y tomando la sarten por el mango sacaron una obrita, que es a la vez tan simple como compleja, que encima trae aparejada una moraleja, que con la cual la obra no pierde su encanto. Preciosista; ganadora de los efectos especiales del festival de Hong Kong, asi como tambien al mejor diseño de sonido. Los hermanos Pang vuelven a esta historia de fantasmas en algo mas, dotandola de sugerentes imagenes, tanto en el plano de terror como en el onirico, con unos personajes realmente aterradores.

Despues de escribir tres best sellers, la escritora Tsui Ting-Yin (Lee Sinje), comienza con su cuarta obra, la cual tendra que ver con el genero fantastico, mas precisamente con los fantasmas, sera ahi entonces cuando empezara a tener experiencias aterradoras, justamente del tipo que anda buscando.

Mencion aparte tienen los actores, los cuales logran hacer entrar en clima al espectador; otro de los actores principales es la musica, compuesta por Payont Permsith, el trabajo de este compositor logra realzar a muchas de las escenas, las cuales, junto al trabajo de los actores son sublimes, por ejemplo cuando la escritora reparte flores a los muertos. Cautivante. Atrapante. Terrorifica. Es asi como se podria definir a esta joya del septimo arte, con uno de los finales mas extraños.

Delicatessen ( 1991 ) dirigida por Marc Caro y Jean-Pierre Jeunet

Cuando hay hambre...

De la mano de Jean Pierre-Jeunet y Marc Caro, alla por los años noventa, llegaba a los cines, una mas que interesante y divertida pelicula, llamada: Delicatessen; en un aire de cotineidad enrarecida a causa de un triste hecho, sus directores otorgan al espectador una estetica de comic, plagada de personajes rarisimos, a cada cual mas loco, no solo eso, como si fuera una montaña rusa in crescendo, a medida que va pasando el tiempo, este film se muestra cada vez mas tetrico y sombrio, hasta llegar a un climax en donde todo estalla, sin por eso, dejar de ser una comedia.

Louison, interpretado por un magnifico Dominique Pinon, llega a trabajar a una casa de departamentos, en donde habitan una serie de peculiares seres, los cuales guardan con ellos un terrible secreto, y quien se encuentra liderandolos no es otro mas que el carnicero, interpretado por Jean-Claude Dreyfus, Louison es muy posible que resulte en la proxima presa.

La pelicula en todo momento notable y con mucha originalidad, a pesar de mostrar un fututro incierto, en donde todo es apatico y gris, nos deja como enseñanza que siempre hay luz al final del camino, y que el amor todo lo puede.
Tanto Caro como Jeunet, comenzaron en publicidad y videos musicales; Jeunet obtuvo la idea de esta pelicula de dos formas, la primera fue mientras viajaba por Norteamerica, como la comida de los hoteles era tan, pera tan mala, se le ocurrio decir que la comida sabia a seres humanos, por otro lado, durante un tiempo vivio arriba de una carniceria, y resulto de que el carnicero era un canibal. Cada mañana a las 7, escuchaba ruido a metalico, como de cuchillos, y una voz que gritaba: ¨¡ Cortando, cortando ! ¨, la novia de este hombre llego a decir que él estaba fileteando a los vecinos, una semana mas tarde, le toco el turno a ella.

En cuanto al plano actoral, todos y cada uno de los actores estan excelentes, desde Pinon, hasta los extraños personajes vegetarianos. Solo resta decir una cosa: ¡ Viva La France !

Una cabeza que vale un millon

En el cine de accion hay un nombre que marco un

antes y un despues, ese nombre es el de: Sam Peckinpah; de él se podra decir que fue muchas cosas, pero que fue un mal director, jamas; él sí que supo plasmar como nadie las escenas de accion, con aquellos tiroteos ralentizados y esos agujeros de bala de donde manaba sangre que lo salpicaba todo. Asi era y es el cine de Peckinpah. Ademas de toda la parafernalia tecnica, él se encargo de mostrarnos unos mundos de lo mas sordidos, fiel reflejo de la época en la que vivia, con personajes que son totalmente unos perdedores, para nada triunfadores, demostrandonos asi con esos personajes, con los que uno bien podria terminar encariñandose, pero solo con algunos, no con todos, que a veces la vida es un gran pañuelo sucio. Asi es, en el cine de Peckinpah todo era gris y triste, ademas de rojo color sangre. En esta oportunidad, Peckinpah nos presenta una pelicula mitad road movie, mitad western, con un delineado de personajes ya clasico: personas comunes y marginales, conviviendo en un mundo que es una porqueria, junto a aquellos, que, a pesar de estar llenos de plata, demu-

estran ser peores que los propios marginales; al comienzo de la pelicula, se ve como un terrateniente mexicano, interpretado por el magistral Emilio Fernandez, gran amigo de Sam Peckinpah esta dispuesto a llegar hasta las ultimas consecuencias, con tal de encontrar a aquel que embarazo a su hija, sin importarle nada, aun sin con ello debe golpear
a su propia hija con tal de que esta le diga el nombre del padre de la criatura. El terrateniente, una vez que le es proporcionado el nombre, un tal Alfredo Garcia, se encargara de contratar a alguien para que lo encuentre y le traiga la cabeza, de ahi el titulo, pagando por la realizacion de tal trabajo, la nada despreciable suma de un millon de dolares; quién se ha ocupar de encontrar tal preciado articulo, no es otro mas que Bennie, interpretado por el actor Warren Oates. Lo que no sabe Bennie, es que no sera él, el unico que ande tras la busqueda de tal preciado objeto.

Traiganme... fue filmada en un periodo en donde Peckinpah no se llevaba bien con la industria cinematografica, la misma le tenia un poco de recelo, ya que con su anterior pelicula, Pat Garrett & Billy The Kid, perteneciente al año 1973, no le habia ido nada bien, es asi que aqui se puede notar, durante toda la pelicula, un cierto aire de desesperanza; ademas, aqui, el director muestra la cara de un Mexico pobre, triste, decadente, lo cual, le trajo algun que otro problema con el gobierno mexicano. Al igual que en sus anteriores trabajos, en esta obra se encuentra
el tema de la amistad, y Peckinpah, con unas pocas escenas, muestra como nadie el amor que se tienen dos seres marginales como lo son Bennie y su novia.
Como datos curiosos, hay que decir de que esta es la unica pelicula de Peckinpah, que tiene el corte del director, mientras que todas las otras
fueron cortadas por los productores;

para llevar a cabo su papel, el actor Warren Oates, copio al propio Sam Peckinpah, incluso, los anteojos de sol que lleva en la pelicula, son del propio Peckinpah, Oates se los pidio prestados; Gig Young aparece en la pelicula, en el bar donde Oates toca el piano, cuando él y Robert Webber se van, Oates le pregunta su nombre a Young, aquél le dice que se llama: ¨Fred C. Dobbs ¨, dicho nombre hace referencia al personaje de Humphrey Bogart de la pelicula El Tesoro de Sierra Madre ( The Treasure of the Sierra Madre, 1948 ) dirigida por John Huston.

Bring Me the Head of Alfredo Garcia

Near Dark, 1987, dirigida por Kathryn Bigelow

Pintora y directora, Kathryn Bigelow nunca tuvo problemas para dirigir escenas de accion, sino basta con ver Point Break, con Patrick Swayse y Keanu Reeves, travellings alucinantes y una accion trepidante. En esta ocasion, varios años antes, nos presento una violenta historia de vampiros, plagada de violencia y hemoglobina. Junto a Eric Red, Bigelow escribio esta historia donde los vampiros dejan de ser unos seres solitarios, goticos y con un apetito por jovenes virgenes, siendo, en cambio, unas criaturas viciosas, que viven como miembros de bandas de pandilleros y aterrorizan aquellas ciudades a las que llegan. En su momento Bigelow comento lo siguiente sobre la pelicula: ¨ la idea principal fue quitar todos aquellos elementos que rodeaban al mito del vampiro: el agua bendita, el que pudiesen convertirse en murcielagos, y hacerlos emerger en un ambito del western clasico y la road movie. Fue algo deliberado. Pensamos que ya que estabamos reinventado al genero de alguna manera, seria un desproposito ponerles categorias. Despues de todo, ¿ qué es lo que son ? Son piratas modernos o cowboys. Son gente a la que te encuentras, cuando atraviesas un callejon oscuro ¨.
¨ Los enfrentamientos, los tiroteos ajustados al salvaje oeste. Les convertimos en pistoleros viajando por autopistas desiertas¨.
¨ Solamente lei Dracula de Bram Stoker y Entrevista con el Vampiro de Anne Rice. Stoker me dio la idea de que las victimas fuesen drenadas completamente, hasta casi la muerte, para luego darles una trasnfusion con sangre ¨ sana ¨ . El atractivo se encontraba en la idea de vampiros redimidos, por el solo hecho de volver a ser mortales; ese solo conocimiento es lo suficientemente tentador para tales seres¨.
En una noche que no sera como cualquier otra, Caleb Colton, tuvo el desatino de levantarse a una muchacha diferente del resto, y, eso le traera complicaciones, como, por ejemplo, conocer a la familia de su novia, a la cual, por cierto, no le cae muy bien Caleb, o, que la muchacha resulta ser un vampiro y lo termina convirtiendo a él en uno; ahora bien, ¿ Caleb podra convertirse en un vampiro hecho y derecho para ser aceptado por fin por la familia de su novia ?
Quizas el exito de Near Dark haya sido el hecho de que, como se puede leer mas arriba, su directora no le prestara mucha atencion a todo el flolclore vampiristico. Casualmente, antes de Near Dark, tanto Red como Bigelow, coincidieron en el libreto de Undertown.
Por el lado del elenco, nos encontramos al actor que encarno al androide Bishop en Aliens, dirigida por James Cameron, perteneciente al año 1986, y, que aqui, hace de Jesse Hooker, un vampiro sin escrupulos que hara lo que sea para mantener a su familia unida. Pelicula de escenas impactantes, como la del bar, la cual logra mantener al espectador en suspenso, desde que estos peligrosos seres entran hasta que salen. Por el lado dcel elenco, ladirectora de esta pelicula, logra una buena direccion tambien de los actores. Como curiosidad, en su momento, la escritora Anne Rice, llego a decir de que Bigelow tomo prestado de su obra algunos elementos.

Innocent Blood ( Transilvania mi amor, 1992 ) dirigida por John Landis

Divertida. Alocada. Sangrienta. Sexy. Esto y mucho mas se puede decir de Innocent Blood, un delirio visual dirigido por John Landis, con una mas que sexy vampira francesa, interpretada por la genial Anne Parillaud, quién, por cierto, al comienzo de la pelicula se pasea desnuda por el interior de un departamento. Aqui Landis realiza una verdadera ¨ reunión de amigos ¨, invitando a participar a: Dario Argento, Frank Oz, Sam Raimi, Michael Ritchie, Forrest J Ackerman, Linnea Quigley, inclusive aparecen: ¡ Peter Cushing, Christopher Lee y Alfred Hitchcock !, por supuesto, estos ultimos tres lo hacen en pedazos de peliculas que se pueden ver esporadicamente durante el film.

Marie, una dulce vampira, anda necesitada de sexo y sangre, es entonces cuando decide salir de caza, y no hay nada mejor que un buen ganster como cena, claro esta, que la dulce y sangrienta Marie, con su proxima victima cometera un gran y terrible error, por que al descuidarse, le otorgara todo el poder de un vampiro a un terrible ganster, el cual, comenzara a crear su propia elite de gansters vampiros. Es asi que, Marie, junto a un policia que estaba metido en la banda del ganster devenido ahora en vampiro, trataran por todos los medios de detenerlo. Una carrera contra el tiempo se ha desatado.

La pelicula, aunque con un buen grado de humor, tambien lleva su buena dosis de terror y dramatismo, que son las menos; el policia que anda junto a Marie, es uno de los personajes que se encargan de aligerar el terror, luego lo haran tambien los otros personajes, en mayor o menor medida. La pelicula, plagada de geniales momentos, como la parte de la morgue, o cuando el personaje de Micelli va a casa de su abogado, la parte en que su abogado despierta en el hospital, junto a varias mas logran un todo de primera. Por el lado de los FX, el departamento que realizo los mismos, hizo un trabajo mas que digno, a traves de los ojos de estos vampiros se puede notar el cambio de animo.

Como anecdota, los distribuidores sin decirle nada a John Landis, retitularon la pelicula para el exterior, llamandola: Una Vampira Francesa en Norteamerica, lo que causo furia en el director y confusion cuando se estreno fuera de Norteamerica la pelicula.

Fuerza Vital

Tobe Hooper demostro a traves de los años, no ser un gran director,

es mas, en su haber figuran peliculas que no son todo los buenas que debieran ser, incluso algunas, que, hoy por hoy, ya son bastante famosas, como cierta cinta donde los fantasmas se comunican con una nena usando el televisor como medio, una pelicula bastante olvidable por cierto.

Aqui, en Fuerza Siniestra ( Life Force, 1985 ), a Hooper se lo encuentra desenvuelto, creativo, mostrando lo mejor de si, y dando un buen giro al genero de los vampiros, logrando asi una pelicula que es, junto a varias mas, un clasico. Por supuesto, en la parte de escritura del guion se encuentra el gran Dan O´Bannon, y, la verdad, que juntos son dinamita.
Tres vampiros extraterrestres con apariencia humana, llegan hasta nosotros con el unico fin de drenarnos nuestra fuerza vital, por supuesto que un astronauta de la NASA sabe el secreto de estas sanguijuelas y hara todo lo posible por detenerlas.

Plagada de buenos efectos especiales, y

con un presupuesto de clase A, aunque por momentos luzca como una pelicula de clase B, Fuerza Siniestra ( Life Force ), es una muy buena y entretenida pelicula de ciencia ficción con terror; cuando la vi por primera vez me dio esa impresion, y ahora, al poco tiempo de haberla vuelto a ver tras muchos años, sigo manteniendo la misma opinion de la primera vez. Las actuaciones son buenas, sobre todo la de Patrick Stewart, quién, por cierto esta impecable, en un principio, quién iba a interpretar el papel de Patrick Stewart iba a ser John Gielgud, pero por razones en su cachet, Gielgud abandono la produccion; Mathilda May, bueno, sin palabras, la chica anda durante toda la pelicula como Dios la trajo al mundo. Por el lado de los efectos especiales trabajo un monton de gente, pero entre ellos se destaca un grande: John Dykstra, trabajo, entre muchas peliculas, en las siguientes: La Guerra de las Galaxias ( Star Wars, 1977 ); El Hombre Araña ( Spider-Man 2002 ); El Hombre Araña 2 ( Spider-Man 2, 2004 ).

Como curiosidades, hay que citar que la musica que Henry Mancini compuso para esta pelicula, fue la musica rechazada para Frenezi ( Frenzy, 1972 ) dirigida por Alfred Hitchcock. De acuerdo a una entrevista con Bill Mallin, quién interpreta a uno de los vampiros, la pelicula se paso de presupuesto y algunas escenas no fueron filmadas. Otros actores que tambien iban a trabajar, pero que a la final fueron reemplazados son: Klaus Kinski y Olivia Hussey; Kinski fue reemplazado por Frank Finlay, mientras que Hussey fue reemplazada por Nancy Paul. A Michael Winner se le ofrecio dirigir este film.
